The biggest misconceptions about the Rent Control




A rent cap is not the same as a rent freeze.

MISCONCEPTION 1: Rent Control abolished.

Now that the Berlin rent cap has been overturned by the courts, there are no longer any legal limits on rent levels.

If the previous tenant already paid the same basic rent, I cannot defend myself against the excessive rent.

I have signed the tenancy agreement. Now I have to pay the excessive rent; it's too late to take legal action.

My apartment was furnished by the landlord. He can therefore demand an unlimited rent.
